CHAMPIONS elect Rams RFC racked up a half century of points for the third time this campaign with an emphatic 53-7 victory at Worthing Raiders.
It means Rams – who have lost just once all season – sit 12 points clear at the top of the National Two South table thanks to Saturday’s bonus-point victory in West Sussex.
And one player who will not forget their latest handsome win is second row Ollie Taylor after making his 100th National League appearance for the club.
Rams head coach Seb Reynolds said: “Huge credit to Ollie for hitting one hundred games since coming over from Bracknell. He runs our line out, he’s an intelligent player and a great guy to have in the team.”
Rams flew out of the traps and notched their first try in under two minutes when Ellis Jones squeezed over in the corner.
Two further touchdowns arrived before the 15-minute mark, both scored by wing Andrew Denham.
He went over after Jamie Guttridge had initially put Tom Vooght away, and then touched down under the posts after Greg Illingworth had peeled off the back of a scrum.
Rams managed one more try before half time to take them into the break in control at 29-0 up.
Worthing regrouped at the interval and came out firing for the second half – only for Rams to stand firm before Andrew Humberstone crossed the whitewash to increase Rams’ lead.
To their credit, the hosts refused to lie down and grabbed a consolation try through Curtis Barnes in the left-hand corner.
That, though, only served to rile the visitors who ran in three more tries before the end of the game.
The pick of them came as Jak Rossiter weaved his way through and fed Taylor, who quickly popped it inside for Vooght, to dab down in the corner.
Rams defence coach Danny Batty beamed: “I'm very pleased with what the boys did. We knew Worthing were suffering with injuries but they still have some very good young runners and great half backs, which made our defensive shift all the more impressive.”
Rams host Redruth at Old Bath Road this Saturday, having beaten their Cornish opponents 32-14 in the return fixture in November.
