WITH just four National League 2 South games left to play in which to wrap-up their excellent season, surely promotion is now cut and dried for Rams RFC who maintained their title winning form last Saturday by crushing hosts Worthing Raiders 53-7.
To underline how dominant they are, in their last four games Rams have scored 174 points to only 62 against.
Next up for skipper Tom Vooght and his men are sixth-placed Redruth at home this Saturday, the visitors having lost the return fixture 32-14 back in December.
There should be a decent crowd for this game as a lot of former Rams players are going up watch and enjoy a lunch before kick-off.
As for `my boys’ Reading? We, too, clocked up a Southern Counties North win with a very satisfying 12-7 success at High Wycombe.
A cracking full-on game of rugby resulted in just three tries, but maintained interest right to the end as the hosts threw everything at us
Both sides played with ambition, looking to keep the ball alive and driving hard for the forwards to open up opportunities. However, defences on the day proved to be the difference.
Reading coach Ben Wills was delighted and his man of the match was Alex Dorliac, playing out of position at full back. “His tactical play, especially towards the end, was first class in putting us on the front foot.
“Much the same could be said of fly-half Alex Murray-Smith, who mixed his options well. Grant Spears too put in some good defence and Stuart Borthwick showed up well on the wing.”
Reading have this weekend off then return the following Saturday at home to bottom of the table Littlemore where they will be looking for a bonus point.
Sadly, it wasn’t a great Saturday for town rivals Reading Abbey who felt the full force of promotion chasing Buckingham away at Floyd Field, going down, 39-5.
Life doesn’t get any easier for them as they return on Saturday week with a home fixture against High Wycombe, who will no doubt be severely smarting from their defeat at the hands of Reading at the weekend.
Finally, Berkshire Shire Hall, playing their final BB&O Championship match of the season, were also on the end of a 63-12 pounding away to Abingdon. They will have hoped for a better finish to the campaign.
