Jockey Jonjo O'Neill junior was in top form at Newbury last Saturday with a big-race double, writes Dave Wright.
The 21-year-old, who the previous week had ridden his first Cheltenham Festival winner aboard Early Doors, won on Annie Mc, trained by his father, and Chic Name from Richard Hobson's yard.
His win on Annie Mc (8/1) came in the EBF & EBA Mares' 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle Series Final, finishing eight lengths clear ahead of Sixty's Belle.
Sent off at 9/2, Chic Name produced a gutsy round of jumping in the Insure With Be Wiser Handicap Chase and may now go for the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown at the end of April.
Hobson said: "Jonjo gave him a cracking ride and that did the business. I was gutted he didn't get in the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham, but that was compensation today."
Noel Fehily ended a 21-year riding career by winning the Goffs UK Spring Sale Bumper on Get In The Queue, the hot 1/3 favourite.
"That was fantastic; I'm overjoyed the plan came off," said the 43-year-old Irishman who has ridden more than 1,300 winners
Get In The Queue, trained by Harry Fry, is now unbeaten in three starts and should develop into a smart novice hurdler.
Newbury are now preparing for their Flat season which starts on April 12-13 with Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials weekend.
The Saturday card also features the Watership Down Stud Greenham Stakes with Too Darn Hot among the entries.
Owned by Lord Lloyd-Webber, the 2000 Guineas favourite has been reported to be working well in the hands of Frankie Dettori.
"He is an exciting horse, he is the champion two-year-old and I'm looking forward to riding him," said the Italian.
And trainer John Gosden added: "He is training nicely and we are pleased with him. We are building towards the Greenham with him."
