SHAUN Ponsford won the Jersey Cup at West Berks on Sunday with a fine 40 points.
The 11-handicapper shot 12 pars and six bogeys to win from Tim Palmer who, with 37 points, beat Nick Jones on countback to take second place.
Tina Mulford overcame the howling gale which swept across West Berks the previous day to win the Turner Davies Trophy. Mary Harwood took second place and Sandy Miller was third.
Paul Reber also took on the conditions to win the men’s Saturday stableford with 35 points. Phil Clare was second on 31 and Danny Collins was two shots behind in third place.
Harwood, Mike Sparvell, Aileen Summers and Alan Trotman won the midweek, mixed, yellow-ball competition with 113 points beating Carol Sparvell, Rob Small, Renee Wheeler and Colin Bell into second place by two clear shots.
The team of Freddie Stephens, Christy Whelehan and Nigel Day won the mixed Traffic Lights competition where the team decides which player would play off which of the red, yellow and white tees on offer at each hole.
Nigel Huszarik, Gary Abraham and Jimmy Green were second on 89 and Bob Graham, Patrick Wilmore and Rob Camden were third on 86.
Alexander Anderson scored 40 points to win the men’s midweek stableford.
In-form Andy Robbings was second on 37 and Colin Bell was a further point back in third place.
There were just four qualifiers in this week’s nine-hole Liddiard competition. Bernie Holden led the way with 22 points followed by Patrick Wilmore and Darren Boulton on 20 and Geoff Dominy on 19.
The men’s Saturday team made it three wins out of three when they beat Oxford City at home 4½-½ while the scratch team lost 5-2 at home to Sandford Springs.
l GORING and Streatley Golf Club member Alexander Nicholls has made the cut at the final qualifying played for the EuroPro Tour at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
The Didcot resident, shot 70 (-2) in the first round and followed it up with a credible 75 (+3) around the more difficult red course to make the cut and secure his first professional card.
