Steve Keel and Paul Rozier won the senior men’s pairs Open at Goring and Streatley.
The pair from Newbury, who played in the first group, had a long, wait to see if their 48 points was enough, but none of the other 25 pairs.
Home club member William Johnston and his guest Frank Cooke came second with 47 points, and Shelley May and Richard Peatman took home third prize on countback with 44.
Phillip Parker and Richard Williams took the Goring prize with a very credible 45 points, while Jon Edwards aced the par three 12th.
There was a good turn-out of for Theale’s annual Seniors Men’s Spring Trophy.
Ron Cox (27hcp) took the honours with a score of 39 points, while Jack McCarthy, Kris Hallett, Gerald Williams and Nick Royston-Smith all finished just two points behind on 37 points.
On countback, Royston-Smith pipped Hallett, both playing off 11 handicaps, for the second spot.
There were also prizes for nearest the pin on the four par 3s and they were won by Neil Isham, Gerald Williams, Richard Humphries and this year’s Seniors Captain, Jim Russell.
CHRIS Ramsey won Division One of the men’s May medal with a gross 81, nett 69 at West Berks, while Giles Feltham (82, 74) took second spot by beating Robert Camden, (83, 74) on countback.
Stuart King won Division Two with gross 88, nett 71 from Ian Lewin who scored nett 73 while Tim Palmer scored nett 78 to take third place from Garry Postlethwaite on count-back.
Nick Jones won Division Three with gross 93, nett 74 from Daniel Duncan on nett 75 second and Phil Clare third with nett 78.
Sian Soanes won the ladies’ May medal with a gross 100, nett 78. Jane Brackenbury shot 85, 79 to take second spot and Gale McAuley was third with nett 80.
Andy Grayson shot a gross 79, nett 71 to win the midweek medal from evergreen Geoff Pudner who shot four over his age to take second place with 86, nett 73. Roger Gaskell with nett 74 won a three-way tie with Andy Robbings and Carl McCartney to take third spot on countback.
Mary Harwood scored 35 points in the ladies’ midweek stableford to win from Renee Wheeler on 33. Georgie Seaman was a further shot behind beating Carol Sparvell on countback to take third place.
This week’s winner of the nine-hole qualifier for the Liddiard Cup was Jason Kendal when the three-handicapper shot a one-under-par 37 for 21 points to beat Fred Stephens on countback.
The Saturday men’s friendly team made it four wins out of four with a 3½-2½ success at Ogbourne Downs, but the Central Sevens team lost 4-3 at home to Drayton Park.
The seniors lost 4-2 also at Drayton Park.
