IN-FORM Wargrave continue to climb the Division One standings, moving up to fourth and title contention following a narrow two-wicket success at Boyne Hill, writes Richard Ashton.
Mark Firth (2-62) was the pick of the visitors' attack, but with Ollie Clayson (62) and Hamad Riaz (60) among the runs, Boyne Hill posted a competitive 239-7 in their 52 overs.
Wargrave lost a couple of early wickets before opener Mandip Sohi (53) steadied the ship, but it was a remarkable knock from young Toby Greatwood (81 from 34 balls) which helped his side to victory from the last ball of the game.
Wargrave – who are now just 10 points off top spot – host eight-placed Cove this Saturday.
Alex Crawford (6-24) and Zac Leonard starred for Kidmore End (124-1) as they moved out of the Division 2a relegation zone following a nine-wicket drubbing of Kew (120).
Kidmore End visit Maidenhead & Bray on Saturday.
Phil Higgs (below) took 5-53, but Hurst’s (136) Division 2b championship hopes took a potentially fatal blow with a two-wicket defeat to Reading (137-8).
Jack Beaven (4-32) and Liam Jones (3-28) were the destroyers-in-chief for the hosts, with Phil Brennan’s unbeaten 55 then leading his side to victory.
Hurst host Fleet on Saturday, while Reading travel to Aldershot.
Sulhamstead boosted their Division 3a survival chances by having the better of their draw at home to Falkland 2nds.
Steve Belcher's marathon 63 not out from 146 balls set Sully up to reach 203-8, and with Doug Macdonald (3-30) and Matt Gill (3-38) again bowling well, they restricted their opponents to 186-8.
Sulhamstead visit Finchampstead 3rds next Saturday.
Purley on Thames (118) dropped to eighth in the table following their eight-wicket defeat to Boyne Hill 2nds (120-2).
The Potters visit fellow strugglers Cove 2nds in a key game this Saturday.
In Division 4a, Wokingham 3rds (179) lost their top-of-the-table clash with Sonning (180-6) by four wickets, despite Ed Fox Smith making 42 and Jake Staples grabbing 3-38.
Ghulam Abbas (4-45), Gus Cloete (3-15), Mark Richards (49) and Peter Dean (48) were the stand-out performers for leaders Sonning, who visit Theale & Tilehurst on Saturday.
Pritesh Benawra took 3-64, but Reading 2nds (81) endured a horrific day at the office as they went down by 200 runs to North Maidenhead 2nds (281-5).
James Bozarth (57no) and Andy Sharp (56no) batted well for Theale & Tilehurst (238-5), but they fell to a four-wicket reverse at White Waltham (240-6).
Luke Shepherd (3-51) was the pick of the T&T attack.
Salman Khalid (4-78 and 83) starred with bat and ball, but his Wargrave 2nds' (218) side were still beaten by 18 runs by Bagshot 2nds (234-8).
Charlie Wheeler (5-41) and Jon Stebbings (79) were the stand-out performers for Division 6b leaders Bradfield (174-5) as they beat Theale & Tilehurst 2nds (173) by five wickets.
Bradfield host Hurst 2nds this coming Saturday.
Robert Clarke smashed an impressive 142 to lead third-placed Purley on Thames 2nds to a 220-run thumping of Reading 3rds.
Clarke's knock helped the Potters declare on an imposing 260-7 after 45 overs, and Raj Senniappan (5-19) then proved too good for the Reading batsmen, the away side shot out for a mere 40.
Jameel Ahamad snared 4-41 to help Sonning 2nds (176-5) improve their promotion chances with a five-wicket triumph at Cove 3rds (172-6).
Ian Harvey (6-31) and James Roxburgh Smith (4-30) bowled Hurst 2nds (141) to a five-run triumph against Fleet 2nds (136).
Dilan Patel took 4-38 for Finchampstead 4ths (201-7) but they had to settle for a draw with Sulhamstead 2nds (207-9).
Alex Davies (57) and Jason Doole took the batting honours for Sully, while Jamie Brown struck 64 for Finches. Rehaan Samdani was the pick of the Sully attack with 4-88 from his 19 overs.
In Division 7a, useful knocks from Ranjeet Sidhu (69) and Mark Simmons (57) led Wokingham 4ths (239-8) to a thrilling last-ball two-wicket win against Kidmore End 2nds, the visitors having declared on 238-8 after 50 overs.
Chris Pigden scored a brilliant 105 for the End, while Pete Roseff chipped in with 64.
Kieran Lall made 58 for promotion-chasing Wargrave 3rds (232-5) as they beat Maidenhead & Bray 3rds (231-5) by five wickets.
Finchampstead 5ths (96) were thumped by 143 runs at Bradfield 2nds (239-6) in Division 8a, Mark Baker (111) and Jamie Farrow (6-18) starring for the home side.
Theale & Tilehurst 3rds (133) were beaten by seven wickets by Boyne Hill 4ths (134-3).
In Division 9a, youngster Louis Dean top scored with 70 for Sonning 3rds (228-8), but they fell to a 43-run defeat at home to Yateley 2nds (271-3) in a high-scoring thriller.
Reading 4ths (99) went down by 130 runs to Maidenhead & Bray 4ths (229-9), while Wargrave 4ths (177-6) lost by two wickets to Marlow Park (181-8).
Kidmore End 3rds conceded their game against Wokingham Oaks & Acorns.
