SIAN Soanes won the Armstrong Salver, the premier ladies’ knockout competition at West Berks, by beating the holder of the trophy, Jane Brackenbury, in a final which proved to be an epic battle that went to the 19th hole.
Tina Mulford won the ladies’ October medal with a gross 98, nett 78, beating Gale McAuley on countback while Brackenbury shot 88, 81 to take third spot.
Rob Camden won Division One of the men’s October medal with a gross 80, nett 71.
Tony Coventry took second spot with 81, 73, while Gary Robinson took third place with 84, 74, beating Colin Price and Chris Ramsey on countback.
Gary Waterston won Division Two with gross 90, nett 73, while Stuart King took second place and Mike Denny beat Rob Bridgeman on countback to take third spot.
Paul Beake won Division Three with gross 91, nett 72, and it was countback again which placed club chairman, Kevin Hopwood, in second place ahead of president, Gordon Munro.
West Berks have made a strong start to the M4 Seniors Winter League season under the new captain, Rob Bridgeman, with 4-0 home wins against both The Downshire and Hadden Hill.
West Berks also enjoyed a 5-0 home win when the midweek mixed team entertained Bradfield College, while the men’s Saturday inter-club friendly team extended their impressive record this season when they won 5-1 at home to Ogbourne Downs.
