MARK Ramos won Division One of the first monthly medal of the year at West Berks with a gross 78, nett 67, beating Carl McCartney (79, 67) on countback.
Kevin Wilkins (82, 70) was third.
Keith Wilkins won Division Two with nett 72, one shot clear of Martin Drew, who beat Charlie Dixon on countback to take second place.
Rob Griffiths was the Division Three winner the best nett score of the day, 66, while Paul Beake with 70 beat Paul Barton on countback to take second spot.
The West Berks’ senior team, led by the men’s captain, Rob Bridgeman, beat Donnington Grove 3-1 in the M4 Seniors Winter League and so guaranteed a place in the knock-out stages of the competition for the sixth successive year.
The rearranged mixed Valentine Trophy played in memory of Ian Bell was a stableford Am-Am format with the best two scores to count.
The trophy was won by the team comprising: Colin Bell, Gale McAuley, Simone Diamond and Barry Francis with 74 points.
A single point behind were Patrick Wilmore, Kevin Forder, Sandy Miller and Helen Bell while Bob Fagg, Mike Denny and Carol Sparvell playing with a ‘secret’ partner took third spot with 71.
Only two intrepid competitors contested the men’s midweek stableford last Wednesday, but they served up some good fare with Greg Collins on 36 points winning from Chris Terrett by just two shots.
THEALE golfers played an unusual competition last weekend, which was new to them and probably to many other golfers, a two-person mixed Texas scramble.
Players took alternate tees and then played to normal Texas Scramble rules.
Considering players had to overcome a waterlogged but playable course and quirky winds, scores were very good with seven pairs beating the course.
Father-and-son duo, Kris and Matt Hallett took the third spot and Glen Brown and Lee Bligh were runners-up
None, however, could match Chris Clack and Nathan Chambers, who cruised to victory with a net 65.2 which included four birdies and eight pars.
