Reading have made contact with Stoke City over a possible move to bring Josh Laurent back the the club, the Reading Chronicle understands.
The 27-year-old spent two seasons in Berkshire, winning Player of the Season in his debut campaign, before joining the Potters on a long-term deal over the summer.
Scoring once in 14 matches so far this season, and playing a pivotal role in a 4-0 win for Alex Neil's men against the Royals on Saturday, the midfielder clapped the Reading supporters as he entered and departed the pitch.

A real fan favourite in Berkshire, crucial goals against Barnsley and Blackburn Rovers helped keep Paul Ince's side in the division last season.
Although it is not thought to be far along, discussions have taken place between the clubs since Saturday's clash at the Bet365 Stadium.
Ince made it clear after the match that he wanted to bring two midfielders into the club before next week's deadline 'in an ideal world.'
There is just seven days remaining in the January transfer window.
