Reading boss Paul Ince has called on his players to 'stamp' their style on Manchester United in Saturday's FA Cup clash.

Returning to a ground he called home for six years in the 1990s, Ince will come up against the in-form Red Devils, who are still fighting in three cup competitions.

Speaking to the media ahead of the trip, the former England captain has urged his side to up their game and imprint their style at Old Trafford.

"The more we can stay in the game and quieten the crowd, the more chance we have of winning the game," he said. "It’s important we don’t show nerves from the start. Surprise them, be on the front foot and aggressive. Championship football is very different to Premier League football. We need to stamp our Championship style on Manchester United- not make it easy or let them lift their heads up and pick passes.

"We’re always a threat from set-pieces. Cup games are different, you raise your game 20 or 30 per cent, and you’re hoping every player who plays raises their standard, that’s how you get giant killings."

Confident in his side's footballing abilities, the former Inter Milan and Liverpool midfielder insists it is the mental side of the game that will prove challenging on Saturday.

"You have to prepare for it as much as you can. It’s always difficult when you are against these sides because you’re wondering if they’re going to play. They’ve got another game on Wednesday against Nottingham Forest so you’re trying to guess what team they’re putting out. Yesterday he brought on some of the kids, Garnacho and Elanga, will they play?

"What you’ve got to prepare for is the atmosphere. There will be 70,000 fans there, Saturday night, you’ve got to prepare for what Old Trafford brings. That’s something most of my players haven’t experienced. It’s more about that, mentally, than playing the game."
