Reading boss Paul Ince confirmed he is still in regular contact with his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
The UK's most successful manager, with 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles among his 38 trophies, signed Ince from West Ham in 1989.
Under his stewardship, Ince won almost everything there was to win before being sold to Inter Milan in 1995.
Previously reported to have had a frosty relationship immediately following his move to Italy, for almost a decade the pair have had a close relationship, and the Royals boss admits they still speak often to this day.
"I've taken little bits from every manager I've played under. Even now I still speak to Sir Alex Ferguson about situations and how to deal with them," he told Premier League Odds.
One element that sticks with Ince to this day is offering opposition managers a drink after the match, no matter the score, as a sign of sportsmanship.
However, the former England captain insists this is a great chance to continue learning.
"Every time we play on a Saturday I invite the opposing manager for a beer or glass of wine after the game and we pick each other's brains, because you can never stop learning as a manager."
