The introduction of three young players helped changed the game on Tuesday as Reading came from behind to beat Rotherham United 2-1.
With a trip to Cardiff City in 24 hours, take a look at the three stars vying for starting places in the Welsh capital.
Nesta Guinness-Walker
A likely enforced change due to the injury of Baba, the 23-year-old has come on leaps and bounds from his debut on the opening day.
The Royals fans have called for the former AFC Wimbledon defender to start for months, but have had to make do with small cameos in recent weeks as Paul Ince opts for Chelsea loanee Baba.
Winning a penalty in a draw against Norwich City before Christmas, the great-grandson of Star Wars icon Sir Alec Guinness is popular for his direct running and attacking play- although his defensive work has improved as the season progresses.
Femi Azeez
An Academy graduate who has impressed in the last 18 months under Veljko Paunovic and now Ince, the winger has struggled with injuries since hs breakthrough in August 2021.
His directness and link-up with Guinness-Walker caught the eye on Tuesday as his driven free-kick was headed home by Andy Carroll for his first goal involvement of the season.
Difficult to fit in from the start due to a lack of wingers in Ince's set-up, the former England captain shifted to a back four at half-time, including wingers, and the Royals ran riot.
With the backing of the supporters, Azeez is getting closer and closer to blowing the hinges off the door to the first team, never mind knocking on it.

Tyrese Fornah
Already popular with the fans due to his personality, his stoppage-time winner on Tuesday won't have done his reputation any harm.
A more difficult position to break in to, with Mamadou Loum, Jeff Hendrick and Tom McIntyre seemingly the trio of choice in recent weeks.
The 23-year-old adds something different, with nobody driving at the opposition box as fluidly as the Nottingham Forest youngster does on form.
If he keeps impacting games like he has, Ince will certainly have a headache.
