"The Championship medal is probably the most special one to me when we got promoted at Reading because the only staff that get one is the trainer or physio, and the manager. I’m very lucky to get the same medal as the players would do at the Championship," he explained. "I don’t know whether things have changed since 2005/06 when I got that. It’s a beautiful medal, it quite intricate and detailed. For me it’s a precious medal for not only what it signifies. We won it by a record number of points and goals which was quite unique and wonderful.

"We got promoted really early in the season and we went away to Spain for a week as a well done and it was a glorified stag week. Every night was a night out and I even remember going for a coffee with Steve [Coppell] one morning through Puerto Banús and looking down there was this guy lying in the gutter, and I elbowed him going ‘Steve, that’s your centre-half.’ It was a great time and we came back and I think our first game was Derby and we won 5-0, it was a crest of a wave we were on."
