Reading conceded another late goal to lose 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers.
Here is every word from boss Paul Ince.
Ince on the match
It was frustrating because I felt the boys played very well. It was frustrating in more ways than one. Frustrating that we gave them a goal after a minute. Blackburn are a good team so the last thing you want to do as a team is give them a goal, and that’s what we did. Sometimes you have to give yourself a chance- a foothold in the game- and we didn’t do that. After that, we made some good chances. Joe made some wonderful saves; their keeper made some wonderful saves. Once we got the equaliser you could sense the crowd- apprehension. They were kicking it out of play, and we were on the ascendancy. I could only see us winning the game, I couldn’t see us losing the game. In football you have to concentrate for 95 minutes, and we didn’t. They’ve got a man between our centre-halves, a gaping gap and you’ve got to cover round. A little back-heel and you’re 2-1 down. We’ve been in this position before, Sunderland and Cardiff. Those last five to eight minutes of a game are so important, you’ve got to be switched on 110 per cent. We weren’t and we got punished.
Ince on recent run
Millwall we should have got something out of, Sheffield United we should definitely have got something out of. We’ve played three of the teams in the top five and I feel we should have got at least three points out of it, three draws. Now it’s a case of taking these performances on and turning them into points. It will be a different type of game on Saturday. Sometimes it is the fine details that cost you games, and we’ve had that in the last three games. We knew this would be a tough fixture coming up but I still feel aggrieved that we’ve not got something out of it.
Ince on injuries
We’re in the situation where we were at the beginning of the season with injuries, kids back on the bench. We have to keep fighting. We’ve got no Yids, no AC, no Scott Dann, no Baba. This scene that you see now- it’s good for the kids to get time- but ideally you don’t want to be using them at this stage of the season. Overall, I thought the lads were very good.
Ince on Loum red card
I was disappointed in Mama. He played really well, he was outstanding, and we looked a better team when he was in it. He’s a natural six which allows Jeff and Ces to get forward. We are very light in midfield as it is so to have him back and playing the way he was at the start of the season, I’m thinking great. To do that stupidity and let himself, and the club, down kills you. We’re at the business part of the season and now we’ve lost him for three matches, which is selfish. I love Mama, but you can’t do that. Normally you look and think is it a sending off or not a sending off- it’s a sending off. There’s no getting away from it, it’s a red card. In the 85th minute you can’t be doing that, and he’s let everyone down. He knows that. I’ve been in situations where I’ve let people down and you know it, but it effects the team now. Overall, a very good performance.
Ince on Lucas Joao
I thought Lucas looked good. He looked sharp. He’s a different player to AC because he comes and links, we looked dangerous. The quality of crosses was good, and we created chances.
Ince on Cesare Casadei
It was great to see Ces do well, his first official goal. He should have had two or three. I’m pleased for him. As a young kid coming into the game, especially from another country, you want to get off the mark. It was great to see him. There were lots of positives, but what we need to do now is turning these performances into points.
Ince on travelling fans
Hopefully the fans who came appreciated it. It’s a long way to come but the hardcore were here today. I know it’s disappointed going down losing the game the way we did, but I think they recognised that we put in a good performance and we’re trying. That’s all we’re going to do, keep giving our all.
