Reading boss Paul Ince labelled midfielder Mamadou Loum "selfish" after his late red card against Blackburn Rovers.
The Senegal international has been missing in recent weeks with injury, but returned from the start against Rovers.
Impressing during the first 85 minutes, Loum was shown a straight red card for headbutting Sam Gallagher.
Ultimately losing 2-1, it marked a fourth straight defeat.
Speaking after the game, Ince said: "I was disappointed in Mama. He played really well, he was outstanding, and we looked a better team when he was in it. He’s a natural six which allows Jeff and Ces to get forward. We are very light in midfield as it is so to have him back and playing the way he was at the start of the season, I’m thinking great. To do that stupidity and let himself, and the club, down kills you.
"We’re at the business part of the season and now we’ve lost him for three matches, which is selfish. I love Mama, but you can’t do that. Normally you look and think is it a sending off or not a sending off- it’s a sending off. There’s no getting away from it, it’s a red card. In the 85th minute you can’t be doing that, and he’s let everyone down. He knows that. I’ve been in situations where I’ve let people down and you know it, but it effects the team now."
He is now suspended for the next three matches.
