Former Reading manager Nigel Adkins is among the favourites to take over at his former club, Tranmere Rovers.
Micky Mellon was sacked from his second spell at Prenton Park following a defeat to Newport County on Saturday, leaving the Birkenhead side in the bottom half of League Two.
Birkenhead-born Adkins is currently 8/1 to take over the club where he began his career, making 86 appearances in the 1980s.
The 58-year-old had a much more successful managerial career, winning promotion with Scunthorpe United, back-to-back promotions with Southampton and a successful spell with Hull City.
Taking charge of Reading in 2013, he was in charge when Premier League relegation was confirmed but almost took the club back, finishing seventh in the Championship.
He was sacked after a 6-1 defeat to Birmingham City in 2014, and has been out of a job for since 2021.
Former Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell is the favourite, at 5/1, while Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler and former Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley are both at 6/1.
