Hal Robson-Kanu has spoken of 'very fond memories' at Reading, however admitted that the club 'changed' after Sir John Madejski left.
The Wales international was a product of the academy in Berkshire, spending 12 years with the club from 15.
Playing over 220 times, including being a regular in the 2011/12 Championship-winning team, 'HRK' left at the end of his contract in 2016 after impressing at Euro 2016.
Going on to become a regular for West Brom, he has been without a club since 2021 and now focuses on his start-up business- The Turmeric Co.
Speaking exclusively to the Reading Chronicle, he looked back on his time at the-then Madejski Stadium.
"From a Reading perspective there’s a massive affiliation because of those formative years of struggle. Without that experience, the Turmeric Co. would never have been born," he said. "Reading’s a phenomenal club who have gone through lots of different ownership structures over the last decade.
"My time was very much integrated within the community and the players felt that, so it felt like a family- particularly coming through. I'm very grateful for that. By the time I left it had certainly changed, Sir John Madejski had moved on and it didn’t have that feel. Like most clubs, the way they treated their players changed from nurturing players and giving them respect. I remember the likes of Graeme Murty and how they were adored, even into their latter years of their career by the club, because the club was very different by the time I left. In terms of affiliation and gratitude, I've got very fond memories of my time there."
