Reading have three attempts to break an unwanted record of going a whole season without doing the double over a Championship opponent, the first time it will have happened for five years.
Picking up 13 victories so far this season, all have come against different opponents.
Despite not doing the double over anyone yet, the Royals were unbeaten against Norwich City, Hull City and Bristol City.
Clashes against Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Coventry City provide the last opportunities for Paul Ince's men to do this, otherwise it will be the first campaign since 2017/18 where the side have not beaten a team twice.
Last season both Birmingham City, Friday's opponent's, and Preston North End were beaten home and away.
2016/17, which ended in play-off heartbreak at Wembley, saw the club complete six doubles, the most since returning to the Championship in 2013.
Veljko Paunovic and Nigel Adkins' failed top six assaults ended with four doubles apiece.
