Former Premier League referee, Chris Foy, believes Yakou Meite's late equaliser against Wigan Athletic was correctly awarded, despite complaints that he fouled keeper Jamie Jones.
Charlie Hughes had given the Latics the lead 10 minutes from time in Saturday's crucial relegation clash, but substitute Meite smashed home an equaliser deep into stoppage time to ensure the spoils were shared- relegating Wigan in the process.
Foy, who spent 15 years officiating in the Premier League, agrees with on-field referee Andy Davies.
"I think the referee has called this decision correctly," he told Sky Sports. "The attacking player and the goalkeeper are both competing for the ball, and there is inevitable contact between the two players.
"It's what you might describe as a typical 50/50 challenge in the area, and on this occasion, I think it was the correct decision to allow the play to continue and award the goal."
With survival now out of the Royals' hands, supporters need to hope that Sheffield United beat Huddersfield Town tonight to take the fight down to the final match on Monday.
