League One rivals Portsmouth are reportedly keeping an eye on former Reading forward Sam Smith.
The Mancunian has had a prolific season for Cambridge United in the third tier- hitting 14 this season and over 20 last year.
Out of contract in the summer, the 25-year-old would be a free agent ahead of next season.
The Portsmouth News have reported that Pompey boss John Mousinho went to watch him in person, but Championship club Preston North End are said to be keen on the striker along with Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons.
Smith scored twice in 11 appearances for Reading in 2017/18, and has been a name regularly discussed in cirlces of Royals supporters over a potential return ahead of next year's campaign in League One.

Making his debut, and scoring his first goal, against Millwall in the Carabao Cup- he had six loan spells away from the club before joining the U's permanently in 2021.
He caught the attention on Sunday, scoring a volley from the edge of the box to help keep Mark Bonner's men in the division.
Former Reading captain Michael Morrison is also on the books at the Abbey Stadium, joining in January.
