Reading have announced that former Southampton boss, Ruben Selles, is expected to be named the new first-team head coach- pending visa approval.

But, who is he?

The 40-year-old has spent over a decade holding a variety of roles in clubs around Europe.

Beginning as fitness coach at Aris Thessalonik, he held a similar role at Spanish outfit Villareal's Under-18s side.

He got his first break into coaching first-team football in 2010 with Russian side Shinnik Yaroslavl.

Returning to Aris in 2011, he moved up to their first-team and remained as assistant manager for two years under four different managers.

Country number four came in 2013, and a fresh role as Chief Data Analyst with Norwegian club Strømsgodset.

Spells in Qarabağ, Denmark and a return to Spain followed shortly after, but it was his move to the South Coast in 2022 where he would be best known to supporters.

Joining as assistant manager to Ralph Hassenhuttl in June 2022, the Austrian was sacked by November and Nathan Jones took over for a short-lived disaster.

Rock-bottom of the Premier League and staring relegation in the face, Selles was given the role until the end of the season from February onwards.

To call it unsuccessful would be an understatement, with the Spaniard picking up just two wins in 18 matches and departing St Mary's with an 11.1 per cent win ratio.

Moving fast to secure former Swansea City boss Russell Martin, Selles was not offered a deal to remain with the Saints in any capacity.

Fluent in four languages and picking up his UEFA Pro-License at just 25, only time will tell regarding his ability to manage a football club, with the coach only having four months' practice.

However, the Royals have secured themselves a young and highly-rated coach looking to make a real name for himself in first-team management.
