Reading FC to see new away end in use on opening day

The club explained over the summer that part of the Upper West will be offered to away supporters from this season, extending the total allocation previously offered in the South Stand, but those seats charged at a higher price.

This riled some supporters of other clubs, who felt that the club were using the move as a reason to charge supporters more money for entry.

An extract from the club's release read: "Extending the visiting supporter section to the Upper West also enables the club to charge a small proportion of away fans a higher ticket price than we are currently able to."

Visiting fans in the Upper West will now pay up to £29 for a ticket- £24 for season ticket holders- compared to £27 (£22 ST holders) in the South Stand behind the goal.

Not entirely clear when this Upper West area would be used- with many questioning if it was an overflow area or sold first- it has been put into use from day one as the Posh visit on the first matchday of the campaign.

Smaller away crowds will enable the popular Club 1871 to be expanded when demand is there.
