Reading fans have been left a little bemused as an unsigned goalkeeper was spotted at Tuesday's open training session at the SCL Stadium.
Joel Pereira has been linked with a move to the Royals for weeks, with the former Manchester United youngster spotted at Bearwood.
His official announcement has been expected but is still not forthcoming.
That has not stopped him from participating in full training, including an open session in front of hundreds of Reading season ticket holders.
Pereira is a free agent after leaving Dutch outfit RKC Waalwijk over the summer.
Now 27, he has made just 68 first-team appearances since turning professional in 2015.
The Reading Chronicle understand that the club are still looking to officially sign the former Portugal Under-21 star, but want to get a goalkeeper off the books first.
Dean Bouzanis, Coniah Boyce-Clarke and David Button have all featured this season, while Jokull Andresson was sent out on loan to Carlisle United.
