Reading have confirmed the signing of long-term trialist Joel Pereira on a one-year deal.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been with the Royals since pre-season, but only now officially signs eight days after the closing of the summer transfer window.
Formerly of Manchester United, playing three times after graduating through the youth system, the Portugese shot stopper has played in League One and the Championship during two of six loan spells away from Old Trafford.
Departing permanently in 2021, the keeper played five times in the Dutch top flight for RKC Waalewijk.
He joins David Button and Coniah Boyce-Clarke in the first-team goalkeeper union, with Dean Bouzanis moving on loan to former club Sutton United.
Mark Bowen, Head of Football Operations for the Royals, said: “Our aim during this summer’s rebuilding process has been to create strength in depth across all areas of the pitch. Joel’s recruitment gives us another option in the goalkeeping department, and during his time training with the team, he has shown a desire to work hard to meet our high standards and to push the other goalkeepers for that starting spot.”
