Former Reading goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was awarded the Yashin Trophy at the 2023 Ballon D'Or Awards.
A night to recognise the best of the best, Lionel Messi picked up his record eighth award while Aitana Bonmati won the female equivalent.
England's Jude Bellingham wins Kopa Trophy for the best young player.
Martinez, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and is a regular in the Premier League with Aston Villa, beat Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Ederson (Manchester City), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), Andre Onana (Manchester United), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal), Brice Samba (RC Lens), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona) and Dominik Livakovic (Fenerbahce).
Martinez began his career at Arsenal but seriously impressed while on loan with Reading in 2018/19.
Playing 18 Championship matches, he was joined by fellow impressive loan players Lewis Baker, Matt Miazga, Ovie Ejaria and Nelson Oliveira.
“I’m full of emotion to have won this,” he said upon collecting his award.
“Without my teammates at Aston Villa and in the Argentina national team, this wouldn’t have been possible – this moment in my career.”
