Reading have been issued a winding up petition by HMRC, the latest in a long line of financial issues in Berkshire this season.
Already docked points and currently sat bottom of League One, the club have missed the due date for the last two bills to HMRC, and the announcement of a new petition comes as no surprise.
The club is up for sale and is progressing talks with three potential new owners, including Sports Direct guru Mike Ashley.

The club were hit with a winding-up petition over the summer, but the court case was cleared after the balance was cleared before the season began.
This adds to the uncertainty as staff are due to be paid today (October 31) but are yet to have received their salaries.
Under an embargo for at least three windows due to paying tax late, this is the fourth winding-up petition under the stewardship of Dai Yongge.
A date to High Court is yet to be set.
