Former Reading forward Billy Sharp is 'gutted' after his stint at LA Galaxy is to come to an end after just three months.

The veteran forward, with the most second-tier goals in history, moved Stateside after an eight-year spell with boyhood club Sheffield United.

Now 34, the striker scored six goals in 12 appearances for the Major League Soccer franchise, finishing 26th in the overall rankings.

Taking to social media after the club confirmed the announcement, the vastly experienced striker said: "It was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the memories LA Galaxy Gutted to not be a part of next season. Thanks to all the fans for all the support and my teammates for making me and my family feel welcome. Once a G always a G."

Sharp spent part of the 2013/14 season on loan in Berkshire, scoring twice in 10 appearances under Nigel Adkins.

He regularly plundered goals against the Royals for the likes of Sheffield United, Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers.
