Reading and Oxford played out a 1-1 draw in the first Thames Valley Derby for over 20 years.

Here are the ratings.

David Button, 6: A quiet night for the keeper, who did not have a save to make all evening and was left helpless for the U’s only goal. Frustrated supporters with slow distribution at times, but side were content with a point.

Andy Yiadom, 6: Had flashes of intrigue and his ball carrying ability was on show. Had some scary moments in the penalty box where he tried to be fancy rather than clear it away from danger.

Tom Holmes, 6: Lots of pressure on the Academy graduate’s shoulders having been recalled from the start but looked okay. Out-muscled for Ciaron Brown’s header but recovered well to look pretty comfortable.

Nelson Abbey, 5: Below par from the youngster, who looked mentally tired. Made mistakes in possession and added pressure onto the team. Was taken out of the limelight on the hour mark.

Jeriel Dorsett, 5: Similar to Abbey, the out-of-position full-back struggled against Oxford. He looked laboured and was pulled off on the hour mark.

Michael Craig, 5: Always had a tough night when he was forced to take one for the team and picked up an early booking. Looked a tad lost, especially when the side were chasing shadows in the second half.

Lewis Wing, 6: Had a good first half and played an exquisite lofted pass to set up Sam Smith’s goal, but his impact was stamped out in the second half.

Harvey Knibbs, 6: Similar to his midfield teammates, Knibbs was full of energy and looked exciting in the first half. Midfield totally lost control of the game in the second half and allowed the U’s to dominate.

Femi Azeez, 6: Energetic and exciting to watch, Azeez was the key man for Reading in the first half. In the second half, the winger hardly saw the ball and had little impact on the game.

Sam Smith, 6: Took his goal expertly but had little else to do as Reading were mainly defending. Enjoyed celebrating against his former team as much as the fans did.

Caylan Vickers, 5: Looked out of his depth and nothing he tried came off. Bound to have peaks and troughs as a youngster.

Substitutes

Amadou Mbengue, 6: Had more pace than Dorsett, covering in behind well, but still looked prone to a defensive lapse.

Tyler Bindon, 6: Pretty calm 30 minutes from the teenager, who had to adapt to the pace of the game quickly.

Charlie Savage, 6: Had an attempt on target and ran around trying to make things happen. Almost tried too hard, perhaps rushing when he could have looked up and picked a better pass.

Ben Elliott, 6: A bright cameo from the youngster, who added some late attacking spark for his side.
