Former Reading manager Veljko Paunovic has departed Mexican top-flight outfit Guadalajara after a disappointing second season.

The Serbian spent 18 months in charge of the Royals, finishing seventh in his only full season at the helm, but was sacked in March 2022 after a poor run of form had the club battling for Championship survival.

Arriving in America in October 2022, the 46-year-old led the club to a third-place finish last season.

Dropping off in the most recent campaign, Chivas sit fifth out of eight following seven rounds of fixtures.

A club statement read: "We are grateful for the professionalism that Pauno showed during his time on the red and white bench, a time in which he contributed to the team maintaining regularity in the national championship, since Chivas qualified directly to the Liguilla in the 2 tournaments under his command and in the first of them he played the Final.

"We also want to recognise the work and dedication of the Serbian coach during his tenure, with special emphasis on the promotion of players from our Basic Forces, which was reflected in several debuts and his continuity with the First Team.

"We wish Veljko Paunovic success in his next endeavours."
