Reading boss Ruben Selles labelled the off-field situation at the club 'horrendous' following news of a fresh set of redundancies.

Struggling to pay their outgoings month-to-month, the club have been forced to make staff cuts in order to meet the financial requirements.

Having already had recent redundancies across all areas of the club, news broke that the academy is set to be hit in a fresh set.

The Spaniard confirmed that at least five will lose their jobs in the coming weeks, just 48 hours before Christmas.

Speaking ahead of a meeting with Wigan Athletic, a visibly distraught Selles said: "It’s confidential information and I am nobody to put it out. It is a process to cut the costs of the club, so the club and CEO is re-evaluating some positions, and they are making some decisions. I cannot expose publicly which ones because I do not have full information and it is not for me to say, but it is a process to cut costs and is effectively all over the place. It is at least five, that’s all I can say.

"The whole situation is horrendous, not only the timing. We need to say goodbye to some people, but it is the decision that the club took. The timing of the decision is not the best, we feel sorry, but unfortunately, it is where we are."

The club have confirmed that December's salary demands will be met on time, and that HMRC were paid on Tuesday.
