Former Reading favourite Charlie Adam has landed his first job in first-team management, taking over at League One relegation rivals Fleetwood Town.
The 38-year-old scored twice in 27 appearances for the Royals, dubbed 'The Scottish Pirlo' by supporters during his one campaign with the club.
A former Scotland international, the midfielder had made his name with Blackpool, Liverpool and Stoke City before moving to Berkshire in the closing stages of his career.
Since retiring as a player, Adam has spent the last 18 months at Vincent Kompany’s now Premier League side Burnley as their Under-21s Coach and Loans Manager.
Fleetwood sacked Lee Johnson earlier in the week, their second managerial exit of the season so far after Scott Brown's sacking in September.
Adam said: “I’m delighted to join a club I know well and one which we feel we can make a real difference with.
“I’m inheriting what I think is a strong squad which is more than capable of getting the results needed to climb the table.
“Fleetwood is a hard-working, honest, and passionate town and the football club must reflect that – the players have to be proud to pull the shirt on and represent what the club and the town stands for."
The Cod Army sit below the Royals, but won 2-1 at the SCL Stadium earlier in the season.
Adam will face his former club in February as Reading travel to Highbury Stadium for the first time.
