Reading midfielder Harvey Knibbs has confirmed that he 'doesn't regret joining' despite the 'project pitched not going to plan.'
The 24-year-old signed a three-year deal to join the Royals in July and has enjoyed a successful debut season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.
However, from a club perspective, it has been the toughest season in its 153-year history, facing a mountain of off-field issues due to owner Dai Yongge.
Good friend and teammate Sam Smith has spoken of how the Royal reality not meeting the summer's promises, and Knibbs has backed this up when speaking to the local media last week.
"Unfortunately, what I came into and the project pitched hasn’t gone the way I would have hoped, or the club would have hoped. It’s not just me struggling from all of this, it’s obviously a bigger picture thing and something we need a solution to."
Pressed further, the question of regrets was posed to the former Aston Villa youngster.
However, this is a claim he emphatically denied.
"I definitely don’t regret joining the club," he said on Thursday. "It’s an unbelievable club- a big club- and it’s an honour every time I play for them. The fanbase has been really good with me and I just want to help the club as much as I can on the pitch and hopefully, we can get to that solution."
