A quickfire London City Lionesses double handed Reading a 2-1 defeat in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

The hosts had taken a narrow lead into half-time after Brooke Hendrix headed home in injury time.

But goals from Paige Satchell and Emma Mukandi turned the game on its head and handed Lionesses’ new coach Remi Allen a win in her first game in charge.

Megan Campbell’s trademark long throw-ins almost set up London City Lionesses for the opener, but Lucy Fitzgerald’s header was saved by Emily Orman.

Charlie Wellings had Reading’s first chance of the game in the 11th minute, sending a shot on the volley narrowly wide.

London City Lionesses dominated possession throughout the half as Satchell and Nicole Douglas troubled the Royals’ defence, but it was Reading who took the lead.

Hendrix rose highest in the second minute of injury time to head the hosts in front at the break.

Eight minutes after the restart, Satchell gave London City their equaliser as the New Zealand international tapped home from a corner.

Mukandi moved the visitors ahead just three minutes later with a devastating 35-yard strike that found the top corner.

The defeat sees Reading drop to 10th, just two points above the relegation zone but they have three games in hand on London City who are now one point above them in the table.
