On this day nine years ago, Reading were held to a 0-0 draw by League Two Bradford City in the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

Both sides hit the woodwork at a sold-out Valley Parade, but the bobbly pitch led to a poor-quality affair with the Bantams.

The Royals cruised past Phil Parkinson's side in the replay nine days later, winning 3-0 at the Madejski Stadium to set up a semi-final with Arsenal.

Nearly a decade on, we look at where the squad are now.

Adam Federici, Retired:

A highly-regarded servant to the club for nearly a decade, Aussie Federici is now synonymous with the 2014/15 FA Cup campaign.

Keeping clean sheets in three of the six ties that season, his extra-time mistake at Wembley saw Steve Clarke's men fall to a 2-1 defeat against the Gunners.

Fans bounced back and made the next home match 'Australia Day' to show support for their shot-stopper and he was voted the club's Player of the Season.

Departing at the end of the season with almost 250 appearances to his name, the fan favourite remained in the UK for five more years with Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City.

Now 39, he ended his career in 2021 with Australian outfit Macarthur FC.

Stephen Kelly, Pundit:

A Republic of Ireland international winding down his career when joining in 2013, the right-back had spent over a decade in the English game with the likes of Tottenham, Birmingham City and Fulham.

Arriving midway through the club's Premier League relegation in 2012/13, the full-back was unable to dislodge Chris Gunter from first-choice berth and was a bit-part-player for two-and-a-half years.

Departing in 2015 with 52 appearances to his name, Kelly spent another couple of years in the Championship with Rotherham United before retiring in 2017.

The 40-year-old can now regularly be seen on Sky Sports providing opinion and analysis.

Alex Pearce, AFC Wimbledon:

A fan favourite with over 200 club appearances to his name, this was to be the Academy graduate's final few months as a Reading player.

Most remember Pearce's efforts during the Battle of Valley Parade after he was forced to change his entire kit following a nasty clash and plenty of blood.

Captaining his side out at Wembley for the semi-final was to be the final hurrah of his much-loved Royals career, joining Derby County in the summer of 2015.

A Championship stalwart until 2022 with the Rams, Bristol City and particularly Millwall, the 35-year-old dropped into League Two a couple of years ago to join the Dons.

To date, the former Republic of Ireland international has made 39 club appearances for Johnnie Jackson's side.

Michael Hector, Charlton Athletic

Someone the Royals have come up against this season, Hector was enjoying his breakout campaign back in 2014/15 for Clarke's Royals.

Breaking through the season before, making nine appearances, the defender had been sent out on an incredible 11 loan spells while trying to make a name for himself.

Nearly half a century of matches in 2014/15, and another five at the start of 2015/16, prompted giants Chelsea to sign the youngster, loaning him immediately back to Berkshire for the rest of the season.

Another FA Cup quarter-final followed and the Jamaica international returned to Stamford Bridge a promising talent. Unfortunately, as is the way with youngsters at Chelsea, he was never offered a debut and had three further loan spells.

Joining West London rivals Fulham in 2019, the 31-year-old twice won promotion with the Cottagers before hopping to South-East London and Charlton 2023, where he remains.

Jordan Obita, Hibernian:

The third Academy graduate in the back line, Obita had won Player of the Season in 2013/14 and was a mainstay until injuries wreaked havoc in 2017.

29 matches in the next three campaigns saw him released in 2020, returning to his boyhood club Oxford United for a short-term spell.

Gareth Ainsworth kept the full-back local in 2020 as he joined Wycombe Wanderers, becoming a fan favourite in two-and-a-half years at Adams Park.

Moving on over the summer, former Reading boss Brian McDermott- now Director of Football at Hibernian, convinced Obita to join him north of the border in Edinburgh.

Jamie Mackie, Pundit: 

An EFL journeyman for the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest by the time he joined Reading in 2014, supporters loved the Scotland international's spirit and drive.

Only joining the Royals on loan, Mackie scored six goals including the final goal against Bradford in the replay.

Returning to QPR in 2016, Mackie scored the winner against Reading and celebrated extravagantly, certainly rubbing supporters up the wrong way.

Retiring in 2020 after a stint with Oxford United, Mackie is now regularly on Sky Sports.

Danny Williams, Fashion Designer:

Relegated from the Premier League in 2012/13, Williams' arrival was a major expense in trying to get back at the first time of asking.

Having impressed in Germany with Freiburg and Hoffenheim, the USA international was a major hit with Royals fans for his four-year stay.

His final act was to convert his penalty in a tense Championship play-off final in 2017, but two teammates missed and within weeks the combative midfielder was unveiled as a Terrier.

Injuries hampered his development in the Premier League, making 36 career appearances in three years before retiring to set up his own fashion label.

Nathaniel Chalobah, West Brom:

Tipped to be England's 'next big thing' early on in his career, the midfielder had risen through the ranks at Chelsea and managed 10 appearances.

These came after six loan spells away, one of which was Reading.

Scoring once in 15 appearances, a spectacular strike against Sheffield Wednesday, he left Stamford Bridge permanently in 2017 to join Watford.

A regular in his final two seasons at Vicarage Road, the former England international won the Championship with Fulham in 2022 but was unable to hold down a starting place.

Now back in the second tier, the 29-year-old is chasing promotion with West Bromwich Albion.

Oliver Norwood, Sheffield United:

One of the most gifted passers of the ball Reading have ever had, the Northern Ireland international was unable to spray his precise passes on the Valley Parade quagmire nine years ago.

Remaining at Reading for one more year, the classy technician won three successive promotions from the Championship with Brighton, Fulham and Sheffield United, before joining the Blades permanently in 2019.

Five years, and more than 200 appearances later, the 32-year-old is set for a return to the second tier as Chris Wilder's men sit adrift at the foot of the Premier League table.

Hal Robson-Kanu, The Turmeric Co:

Another Academy graduate in from the start, Robson-Kanu spent seven years as a first-team regular, making over 220 appearances and twice featuring at Wembley.

Following his heroics for Wales in Euro 2016, the forward departed the club and opted to join Premier League West Brom.

A Premier League starter for three of the next five years, the 34-year-old made more than 150 appearances for the Baggies before walking away upon the expiration of his contract to set up The Turmeric Co.

Pavel Pogrebnyak, Retired:

Reading's marquee signing after winning the Championship in 2016, the Russian international became something of a cult hero in his three-year stay.

Scoring 26 goals in 91 appearances, half of which came in one season, Pogrebnyak departed following Wembley heartache in the semi-final.

The striker continued to play back in Russia until 2021.
