Reading icon Sir John Madejski believes a takeover 'will ratify in the near future' but spoke of his confusion in the news that Wycombe Wanderers are set to purchase Bearwood Park.
Madejski spent 26 years at the helm of the football club, twice leading the Royals into the Premier League during his successful tenure.
Since selling the club in 2015, Thai and Chinese buyers have stripped the club of its assets and left the club back where Sir John picked it up from, the third tier.
News broke late last week that Wycombe were to buy the Royals' state-of-the-art training ground from them, but more positive news came out that there were a set of North Americans keen on buying the football club.
Speaking on BBC Berkshire, Madejski commented: "I’m always an optimistic person and I believe that things will ratify in the near future and I think the club will be sold. I still can’t get my head around High Wycombe- it does not make sense in any way, shape or form. High Wycombe is 20 miles away, that is a 40-mile round trip from their club over here and back. Personally, I don’t think it will grow legs."
A meeting is expected to take place today (18/03) to discuss next steps while the on-field team don't return to action until Good Friday against Northampton Town.
