Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala believed the ball hit Jack Moylan’s face- not hand- in the controversial flashpoint of Reading's 1-1 draw with the Imps on Saturday.
The Imps are on a run of 16 matches unbeaten but Tyler Bindon's header five minutes from time was enough to end their run of five straight victories in a late play-off charge.
In the first half, Royals supporters and officials were incensed as Paul Mukairu was denied an almost certain goal by defender Moylan, with replays appearing to show him handle the ball.
However, the ball came at speed and from close range, which may have contributed to the unpopular decision made by referee Alex Chilowicz.
Ruben Selles refused to comment on the issue, believing his side had enough chances to win the game without the award of a penalty, while Skubala told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I haven’t seen it; I honestly haven’t seen it back. All I thought was if someone is striking the ball at 100 miles an hour from a metre away, how are you going to get out of the way of it? I thought it hit his face; he said it hit his face so it’s one of them."
On the draw itself, the former Leeds United coach added: "I think when you look at it over the 90 it is a fair point for both involved. It is a bit disappointing when you go one up and want to see it out, we’ve been good recently from set pieces, so that is disappointing but all in all a fair point.”
Reading sit six points clear of the relegation zone with four matches remaining, heading to the Memorial Ground to face Bristol Rovers on Tuesday with over 1,100 travelling supporters behind them.
