Reading legend Jimmy Quinn has called on owner Dai Yongge to 'sort out' the off-field issues to allow manager Ruben Selles to 'take us forward.'

64-year-old Quinn enjoyed a prolific playing and managing spell with the Royals in the 1990s, scoring 71 goals in 182 matches in the third and second tiers.

Following the departure of Mark McGhee, Quinn and Mick Gooding stepped up as joint player-managers from 1994 until 1997- famously taking the club to the Division One play-off final and the brink of the Premiership in 1995.

Now an ambassador at another former club, West Ham United, Quinn spoke to BBC Berkshire about his worries with the current off-field saga in Berkshire.

"It seems all up in the air at the moment," the former Northern Ireland international told Tim Dellor. "I’m keeping an eye on it, as I do with some of the clubs I played at. I’m an ambassador at West Ham these days but I keep an eye on what Reading are doing. They’ve had their ups and downs that is for certain. I just hope it all gets resolved- they seem to have a decent manager at the minute who is able to take us forward- they just need to sort the rest of it out.

"I always keep an eye on Reading, I had one of the best times of my career at Reading, and they’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the last few years.

"They’re back in the division I got them out of many years ago so I just hope they can get the finances and ownership sorted and let the manager get on with his job and settle down."

Negotiations remain ongoing with an unnamed party, but there remain fears over the completion of the deal.
