Former Reading favourite Garath McCleary has signed a one-year extension with local rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
The 37-year-old joined the Royals in 2012 and spent the next eight years in blue and white hoops, making nearly 300 appearances and famously scoring in the club's 2015 FA Cup semi-final.
Departing Berkshire during the Covid-19 pandemic, denied a chance to say goodbye to supporters, the winger returned to the SCL Stadium in March and received a standing ovation.
Take the result away, what I saw today I was genuinely overwhelmed 🥲. Maybe from the covid year it was the bit of closure I needed, 8 years this place was my home. I thank you & wish you all every success for the rest of the season @ReadingFC #royals #readingfc #Urzzz

A legend at Adams Park, the winger has made over 150 appearances in Buckinghamshire and made 49 appearances last season, his 18th season in professional football.
"I'm really happy to get it done," he told the club media. "It's been in the process for a while but thankfully it's done and we can kick on for next season.
"I've been here for quite a while now and I've grown a bond with most, if not all, the players. The gaffer has been brilliant and all the fans and people behind the scenes have taken to me. I'm happy to be here."
Boss Matt Bloomfield added: “I’ve loved working with G throughout his time here and it’s fantastic news that he’s staying with us.
“He’s been an incredible professional for this club and has continued to produce performances to the highest standard week in, week out."
