EFL veteran Billy Sharp has made an emotional return to League Two Doncaster Rovers at the age of 38.

The top scorer in the history of the Championship, Sharp is best known for his long association with boyhood club Sheffield United.

However, he also netted 45 goals in 102 appearances for the Rovers in spells between 2009 and 2014.

While with Southampton, the experienced forward struck twice in 10 appearances for Reading during the 2013/14 campaign.

Most recently with Hull City, the Yorkshireman failed to score for the Tigers last season but plundered six goals in 12 appearances for LA Galaxy.

Upon returning to the club, Sharp commented: "I had some great memories here. This is a club where I scored some good goals and I had some tough times as well, but they were there for me as a club. It has a special place in my heart.

“It’s another challenge for me that suited me at this stage of my career. I know I’m 38 but age is just a number and I still feel really fit and strong. I feel I can still score goals at this level."

The upcoming 2024/25 campaign marks his 20th professional season, with the forward spending 17 of these playing in the EFL.
