West Ham United Under-21 lead coach, Mark Robson, is looking forward to a reunion with Reading, a club he played for while on loan over 30 years ago.
The 55-year-old boyhood West Ham fan began his career with Exeter City before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 1987.
In 1988, the midfielder played seven times for the Royals under Ian Branfoot and embarked on four other temporary moves before permanently joining the Hammers.
Coaching since 2000 with the likes of Charlton Athletic, Peterborough United and England, Robson has been with West Ham since 2021.
Reading have been drawn against his young West Ham side in next season's EFL Trophy, alongside Newport County and Cheltenham Town.
Speaking after the draw, Robson said: “I think it’s a really good draw. We’ve played Cheltenham and Newport a few times over the years, so we know we’re in for a tough couple of games there.
“Reading is another great draw, with the opportunity to go and play at their stadium. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the lads and they’ll be looking to relish it."
Former Royals teammate from 1988, Michael Gilkes, remains with the club as head of the fabled Academy.
