Former Reading defender and coach Becky Jane has called out owner Dai Yongge and 'senior staff' following the decision to drop the women's team to amateur levels due to lack of funding.

Jane, who first arrived in Berkshire 13 years ago, racked up over a century of appearances for the team as she helped gain promotion to the Women's Super League and establish the club as a force in the game.

Opting to join Liverpool in 2019, the former England youth international returned in 2022 and has since undertaken a coaching role alongside still playing.

Since the club dropped to tier five, Jane was among those to be made redundant and has left the club after an association of over a decade.

Announcing her exit on social media, the 32-year-old slammed Yongge and other 'senior staff' for leaving a 'huge hole for women’s and girls football in Berkshire.'

"Last day at Reading Women today before serving redundancy," she announced on X [formerly Twitter].

"Since coming to the club in 2011, I have had the pleasure of playing with some of the best, working with such hard-working, knowledgeable staff, and coaching some very talented young players, who I wish all the best in their future careers.

"Hopefully one day, the owner of the club and senior staff will realise the importance of equality, and how crucial a women’s team is, not only to a club, but the wider community and all young girls aspiring to fulfil their dreams.

"A huge hole may now exist for women’s and girls football in Berkshire and I hope this won’t last forever."

13 first-team players departed at the end of the season, with the team managing to survive in the Championship during the playing campaign.
