Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman thinks Reading 'will be okay' next year but implores a sale to be pushed through as soon as possible.
Goodman, the former EFL forward, infamously scored against the Royals in the 2001 third-tier play-off final. For over a decade, the former Wolves and Walsall star has been a prominent voice in Sky's coverage of the EFL.
Only four weeks remain until the start of the season and Reading are still awaiting official word on their potential takeover from former Wycombe Wanderers chief Rob Couhig.
Unable to work in the transfer window until a takeover progresses, Ruben Selles has his work cut out to build on last year's 17th-place finish.
Speaking to OLGB, Goodman said: "Ultimately, I do believe they will be okay," said the pundit and former player.
"Once the takeover is complete, no matter what league they're in, and let's hope it's League One or better, the fans will be able to smile again.
"But at the moment, it is very hard to see how they can possibly compete at the top end of League One with all of this going in the background and with the squad that they currently have.”
