After nearly 10 months of being up for sale, Reading Football Club are as close now to a takeover as they have been in the whole sorry saga.

The Reading Chronicle have pledged to round up all takeover news weekly with the hope that a change of ownership comes sooner rather than later.

Yet to hear back from former CEO Nigel Howe when it comes to a sit-down interview, and with the man tasked with selling the club yet to update Supporters Trust at Reading, there had been a dearth of news or progress.

However, this all changed on Tuesday when it was revealed that former Wycombe Wanderers chief Rob Couhig could be as little as a fortnight away from taking control of the club after months of negotiations.

The 75-year-old has spent this week in the town, spotted by fans in the centre and at the SCL Stadium, as meetings took place with the hierarchy, including manager Ruben Selles.

On top of this, it has emerged that former Wycombe captain Joe Jacobson could be in line for a boardroom role at the club after bringing to a close a decade at Adams Park last month.

The 37-year-old has been accompanying Couhig in the aforementioned meetings and met the club staff.

With the League One campaign getting underway in four weeks, Couhig and the club are in a race against time to wrap up proceedings, formally take over and start putting together a squad capable of ensuring supporters aren't concerned about relegation battles or points deductions for another year and usher in a new dawn.

Preparations got off to the perfect start this week when the Royals beat Watford 2-0 in the first friendly of the pre-season campaign.

Now over a week overdue, Reading are the only club yet to publish their accounts for 2022/23.
