Former Reading loanee, Graham Potter, is reportedly under consideration for the England job after Gareth Southgate quit.

Southgate, who was in the opposite dugout for the Royals' first-ever top-flight game as Middlesbrough boss in 2006, had been in charge of the Three Lions for eight years.

Having led the country to successive European Championship finals, Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Spain was his final match as he opts to depart.

The FA have drawn up a shortlist of potential candidates.

According to Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett, former Brighton and Chelsea boss Potter is high on the wish list.

Back in 1999, Potter had a five-game loan spell in Berkshire from Southampton while his playing career took in spells with the likes of Birmingham City and York City.

As a boss, he shot to fame as manager of Swedish side Ostersund- beating Arsenal in the Europa League- before impressing with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 49-year-old has been out of work since a seven-month spell with Chelsea ended in April.

Dorsett has named Newcastle United chief Eddie Howe, England Under-21 coach Lee Carsley and former Tottenham Hotspur favourite Mauricio Pochettino as other potential candidates.
