Supporters Trust at Reading chair, Sarah Turner, is 'confident' in Rob Couhig's proposed takeover of the club, hoping for progress this week.

A key stakeholder in the takeover process for almost 12 months, STAR had previously been having regular updates from former CEO Nigel Howe, although the regularity of such meetings at present is unknown.

Mr Couhig, the 75-year-old former owner of Wycombe Wanderers, has been linked with buying the club for over a month and has spent considerable time at both Bearwood and the SCL Stadium in recent weeks.

A deal, which is looking increasingly likely, will reportedly take up to a fortnight according to a report from The Telegraph.

Giving her thoughts on the future of the club on BBC Berkshire, Mrs Turner nailed her colours to the mast.

"I am really hopeful for next week, keeping my fingers crossed," she told former club captain Ady Williams. "I am confident. I really feel that things are moving in the right direction. I’ve heard little rumours and I’m really confident.

"The fact that Mr Rob Couhig has been around the club, spotted at the stadium and fans have bumped into him in Costa Coffee- that makes me think some rumours must be true.

"We know he did a really good job at Wycombe- a very solid and sensible owner who ran them in a sustainable way. He took the club, moved them forward and left the club in a much better place than he started. He sounds like a sensible custodian."

The Reading Chronicle understands former Wycombe captain Joe Jacobson has been at Bearwood multiple times in recent weeks with an eye to come in alongside Couhig.

Just three weeks remain until the League One campaign kicks off, with the Royals the only team in the EFL yet to make a signing.
