After nearly 10 months of being up for sale, Reading Football Club are as close now to a takeover as they have been in the whole sorry saga.

The Reading Chronicle have pledged to round up all takeover news weekly with the hope that a change of ownership comes sooner rather than later.

Yet to hear back from former CEO Nigel Howe when it comes to a sit-down interview, and with the man tasked with selling the club yet to update Supporters Trust at Reading, there had been a dearth of news or progress.

However, this all changed on last when it was revealed that former Wycombe Wanderers chief Rob Couhig could be as little as a fortnight away from taking control of the club after months of negotiations.

The 75-year-old has spent this week in the town, spotted by fans in the centre and at the SCL Stadium, as meetings took place with the hierarchy, including manager Ruben Selles.

On top of this, it has emerged that former Wycombe captain Joe Jacobson could be in line for a boardroom role at the club after bringing to a close a decade at Adams Park last month.

The 37-year-old has been accompanying Couhig in the aforementioned meetings and met the club staff.

Tim Dellor, the long-standing journalist for BBC Radio Berkshire, released news on Thursday hinting that perhaps a sale was not quite as close as first thought.

Mr Dellor stated that the American still harbours hopes of completing in 'the next 10 days' but the 'EFL need convincing he has the required funds and a two-year plan.'

If completed in time, this would see the deal done by the end of July, which gives Ruben Selles 10 days before the start of the League One campaign.

Sarah Turner, chair of Supporters Trust at Reading, is 'confident' in the deal, but Dellor concluded that it was 'far from a done deal.'

Following on from recent activity on Companies House, albeit the club accounts remain unpublished, there was some 'tidying' as the Cessation of Reading Asia Holdings Limited was confirmed.
