Reading continued their fine pre-season form with a 1-0 victory over Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers at the SCL Stadium.
Femi Azeez netted just after half-time in what was a hotly-contested tie with heavy tackles flying in from both sides.
Ruben Selles named a strong side from the off, although teenagers Abraham Kanu and Andre Garcia caught the eye in the backline.
Chances were at a premium in the first half until the closing stages when the R’s took control, Paul Smyth particularly guilty of being wasteful.
However, on another day the visitors may take a lead as the Northern Irishman’s effort flew off the underside of the crossbar after a swift counter-attack.
After the break, Azeez got on the end of Amadou Mbengue’s long pass to put the Royals ahead, and despite huffing and puffing Marti Cifuentes’ men couldn’t draw level.
A heavy tackle from Charlie Savage drew the two sets of players into the first of multiple aggressive clashes, only adding to the heat which was apparent from the start.
QPR did have the ball in the net but the offside flag spared Reading blushes, while Joel Periera was kept busy and impressive throughout.
Marking a third win in pre-season to date, Cardiff City and Hull City await in the coming seven days before League One action returns at Birmingham City on August 10.
