Reading favourite Lewis Wing has set his ambitions high, aiming to get the club 'back into the Championship' this season.
The 29-year-old enjoyed his career-best campaign last time out, contributing with 11 goals and 11 assists.
Picking up Player of the Season, the midfielder has solidified himself as a fan favourite ahead of just his second year in blue and white hoops.
Despite finishing 17th last season, the club's lowest finish for nearly 40 years, and currently the only side in the division yet to make a signing, Wing is aiming high for the new campaign.
"I came to this club to get it back to the Championship, so that’s my aim this year," he boldly told the media after Saturday's 1-0 win over QPR. "We haven’t bought anybody in but we’re a close group with a philosophy. You could see today that we weren’t at our best, but we got through the game and won the game and prior to these games we’ve been excellent, so I’ve got no concerns about that. As long as we start the season better than we did last year, we’ll be challenging at the top end of the table."
Remaining among the largest clubs in the division, uncertainty remains over the ownership of the club which prevents any new additions and continues to linger like a dark cloud.
The likes of Birmingham City, Rotherham United and Wrexham are among the front runners for promotion after big-spending exploits in the transfer window to date.
