Reading boss Ruben Selles has insisted that his side are 'ready' for League One- even if it were to start tomorrow.
The Royals have enjoyed a successful pre-season campaign to date, beating the likes of Watford, Woking and QPR while losing out narrowly to Millwall behind closed doors.
Cardiff City host Reading this evening before Hull City visit Berkshire on Saturday for the final warm-up game of the campaign, with Birmingham City hosting Reading on the opening day next Saturday (August 10.)
Despite 10 days remaining and the club the only team in the EFL yet to make a signing due to EFL restrictions, the Spaniard has insisted that the work done over the summer means they are ready to go.
"We will be ready to go tomorrow because we work like that," Selles confidently said. "The advantage of the way that we work is we faced QPR today like we want to play Birmingham. We want to win matches and do it in our way, so it is no different from what we do today or the way we approach it with training and food than what we will do against Birmingham or Wigan. If we need to play today or tomorrow, I think we are ready."
Last season, the side started poorly due to off-field uncertainty and a squad pulled together late on after dipping in and out of transfer embargoes repeatedly.
At one stage 10 points adrift at the foot of the League One table, the Royals ended in 17th and have looked positively heading into the new campaign.
Last season's Player of the Year, Lewis Wing, said: "I came to this club to get it back to the Championship, so that’s my aim this year.
"We haven’t bought anybody in but we’re a close group with a philosophy. You could see today that we weren’t at our best, but we got through the game and won the game and prior to these games we’ve been excellent, so I’ve got no concerns about that. As long as we start the season better than we did last year, we’ll be challenging at the top end of the table."
