Reading legend Adam Le Fondre has found a new club at 37 years of age, making the drop into non-league with FC United of Manchester.

The Mancunian, who made his name with Stockport County and Rotherham United, finished as top scorer in three successive seasons as a Royal and has scored the most goals in a season as a substitute in 2012/13.

Since departing Berkshire a decade ago, his goal-laden career has taken him to Australia, India and Scotland with the likes of Sydney FC, Mumbai City and Hibernian.

Scoring five goals for Hibs last season, and making his debut in European competition, he was released by the Easter Road club after a year.

Still keen on playing, the striker admitted he had talks with clubs in the EFL and non-league, but none 'jumped out.'

Training with FC United over pre-season, the forward has penned a deal to remain with the Northern Premier League outfit for the 2024/25 campaign.

Speaking to the club channel on his arrival, Le Fondre said: "Pre-season's been quite strange for me, leaving Hibernian and waiting for opportunities to arise that fit in with what I want to do next.

"I was speaking to clubs- a couple of league clubs and a couple of non-league clubs- but nothing really spoke out to me project-wise and one of my best friends [Charlie Ennis] here is the captain so one of the main things was to play with him.

"We were kids at Stockport and came through and this has given me the opportunity now to play non-league and have the opportunity to play with him and represent FC at the same time."
